I have a Dell Vostro 1500 with Sigmatel and I have been trying to convert old audio cassettes over to my computer using Audacity.
Everything looks ok, but when I connect the cassette player headphone jack to the microphone jack of my computer, I hear no sound. The input volume meter on Audacity is moving as though it hears something, but nothing is coming out of the speakers.
Any help is appreciated.

If I remember correctly Windows doesn't have monitoring of the microphone jack, so it won't output the sound to the speakers. If that makes sense. Audacity might have an option to turn on monitoring, allowing you to hear what it's recording.
I assume it records fine and sounds alright when played back?

Hi, I have a Dell Vostro 1000 Laptop and I have a sound problem, audio is popping and crackly - I have sent my laptop back for a replacement as Dell said it was a hardware issue but my replacement has the same problem. I have updated drivers to no avail. Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry for not replying sooner. hmm What OS are you running and what driver version, if you are running Vista and using the driver for vista see if you can get the XP version and see if that helps.
